If anything, all you will need to do is add the Container ID.

The process for adding will also be slightly different if you are setting up Google & Youtube Sales Channels.

Not going to list our directions on this one as Google has written some decent and easy to follow directions. The entire process is also really intuitive to complete.

If you do not have never setup Google Analytics before, the first few minutes of the video is still valid information. Everything after 2:30 seconds is out dated (which is like 1 step from her point of view). You will instead see a Yellow Box that has information and a button in it. Follow those prompts and you will be set up in no time.

Sometime prior to August 2022, Google changed how things on their end work when it comes to verification. Google's documentation has been kind of slow on rolling out this information, but it is probably somewhere now.

The reason I bring this up, the change for verification has now impacted how Google Search Console is setup. You can no longer use the HTML code which is what is displayed in the video. You now how to use TXT or CNAME records which is a totally different process.

In case anyone comes here to look for a "What do I do now?", here are some steps that are a little more straight forward, though I don't have a video for it.

1. When you reach the Domain Verification Screen, enter in your website on the left side. If you have URL Prefixes, these directions aren't going to work for you.
2. Click Next.
3. At the top of the box, you have two options in a drop down. It defaults to "TXT" which is recommended, but within it is also "CNAME". While TXT is recommended, we are going to select CNAME instead.
4. Before you copy the code, go to where you purchased your Domain from. This could be GoDaddy, Shopify, or another provider.
5. Access your DNS records. If you aren't sure how to do this, check the Help Center of your provider. If you've set up Email in the past, you might remember to location from that. For Shopify, you would go Settings > Domains > click on your Domain > Domain Settings > Edit DNS Settings.
6. On your screen, you should have the option for entering or creating a Custom Record. Select this and then select CNAME.
7. Copy the first value from Google Search Console and add it to the first box. Copy the second and add it to the second box. (If you didn't change to CNAME and are still seeing TXT on Google Search Console, that's fine, you can change to CNAME now and no one will no the difference.)
8. Click "Confirm" on the DNS records.
9. Go back to Google Search Console and click "Verify".

If all goes as planned, you should receive a green confirmation box confirming that the record has been setup.
If you got the red box, check back in 24 hours (or sooner, up to you). If you are still having an error after 24 hours, you might have an issue somewhere.

These directions were provided for CNAME instead of TXT because there is information missing from the TXT process. In order to understand what is missing and how to fix it, you need to have a certain level of familiarity with DNS records, which most of the people taking this course will not have (don't worry, there are IT Professionals that have no idea what would be needed either).

Enjoy!

What Is Search Marketing

Search marketing is a digital marketing discipline that encompasses both Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM). SEO focuses on improving a website's organic ranking in search engine results, while SEM involves paid advertising strategies to increase a website's visibility. Both approaches aim to drive more traffic to a website by improving its ranking on search engine results pages (SERPs). Here's a basic overview of search marketing, separating SEO and SEM:

Overview of Search Marketing

SEO (Search Engine Optimization):

Keyword research: Identify relevant keywords and phrases that your target audience is likely to use when searching for products, services, or information related to your business.

On-page optimization: Optimize website content, including titles, headings, meta descriptions, and image alt text, to ensure that search engines can easily understand and index your content.

Technical SEO: Improve website performance, security, and accessibility to ensure a positive user experience and make it easier for search engines to crawl and index your site.

Link building: Acquire high-quality backlinks from authoritative websites to improve your website's credibility and ranking in search engine results.

Performance monitoring: Regularly monitor and analyze your website's SEO performance using tools like Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and other SEO tools to make informed decisions and optimize your strategies.

SEM (Search Engine Marketing):

Paid advertising: Use paid advertising strategies, such as pay-per-click (PPC) ads, to increase a website's visibility on search engine results pages.

Ad creation and optimization: Create and optimize ads with compelling headlines, descriptions, and display URLs to improve click-through rates and conversion rates.

Budget management: Set and manage advertising budgets to maximize return on investment (ROI) and minimize advertising costs.

Performance monitoring: Regularly monitor and analyze your SEM campaigns' performance using tools like Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising to make informed decisions and optimize your strategies.

Popular Search Engines for Search Marketing (with Official Links)

Google: Google is the most widely used search engine globally, offering businesses numerous search marketing opportunities through Google Ads and organic search results. (https://ads.google.com/)

Bing: Bing is the second most popular search engine and provides search marketing opportunities through Bing Ads, which also serve ads on the Yahoo network. (https://ads.microsoft.com/)

Yahoo: Yahoo is another popular search engine that displays ads from Bing Ads, offering businesses additional search marketing opportunities. (https://www.yahoo.com/)

DuckDuckGo: DuckDuckGo is a privacy-focused search engine that offers search marketing opportunities through its advertising partnership with Microsoft Advertising (Bing Ads). (https://duckduckgo.com/)

Yandex: Yandex is the leading search engine in Russia and offers search marketing opportunities through Yandex.Direct, its advertising platform. (https://direct.yandex.com/)

By understanding the fundamentals of search marketing, SEO, and SEM, and leveraging the features of various search engines, businesses can effectively promote their products, services, and brand, drive more traffic to their websites, and achieve their marketing goals.

Search Engine Tools and Reporting

Search engine companies provide tools to assist you with monitoring your site visibility in the search index. These are the most popular tools for the major search engines often referred to as webmaster search consoles.

Google: Google Search Console (formerly known as Google Webmaster Tools) allows you to monitor your website's performance, fix issues, and optimize its visibility on Google Search. (https://search.google.com/search-console/)

Bing: Bing Webmaster Tools lets you access various tools and resources to improve your website's performance and visibility on the Bing search engine. (https://www.bing.com/toolbox/webmaster/)

Yahoo: Since Yahoo's search is powered by Bing, you can use Bing Webmaster Tools to manage your website's performance and visibility on both Bing and Yahoo search engines. (https://www.bing.com/toolbox/webmaster/)

DuckDuckGo: DuckDuckGo does not have its own webmaster console. As it sources search results from various partners, including Bing, optimizing your website for Bing and other major search engines will likely improve your visibility on DuckDuckGo.

Yandex: Yandex.Webmaster is a suite of tools to monitor your website's performance and optimize its visibility on the Yandex search engine. (https://webmaster.yandex.com/)

By using these webmaster consoles, you can gain valuable insights into your website's performance, identify issues, and implement optimizations to improve its search visibility and ranking across different search engines.
